Potions are consumable or splashable items that grant specific buffs or debuffs to players. Most potions can be brewed in a Brewing Stand, whereas others can only be purchased from certain NPCs or obtained from Gifts.
Brewing
Certain potions can be brewed using a Brewing Stand, which can be crafted or purchased from the Alchemist in the Hub for 30 Coins.
Brewing in SkyBlock is similar to that of Vanilla Minecraft - You use Nether Wart to brew Awkward Potions, Glowstone Dust to increase the power or tier of the potion, and Redstone to increase the duration of the potion. However, there are some differences to be aware of:
- The Brewing Stand uses a custom GUI, and players can hover over panels to see the time remaining on each brew, which can be up to 20 seconds.
- The potion's duration scales with the brewer's Alchemy level (+50% potion length at Alchemy 50).
- Brewing does not require a Blaze Powder to brew.
- Enchanted items/ingredients result in stronger/longer-lasting potion effects.
To start brewing, place up to 3 of your base potion of choice in the bottom 3 slots and place the ingredients at the top. When a potion starts brewing successfully, the glass panes in the middle will turn orange and yellow. Potions finish brewing after 20 seconds.
Most potions have a base duration of 3 minutes, but some (such as Regeneration) have shorter base durations, such as 45 seconds or even 3 seconds.
Base Potions
Potion | Obtaining | Usage |
---|---|---|
Water Bottle |
Filling up a Glass Bottle | Grants no effect upon consumption, but can be used to make Awkward Potions or Weakness Potions. |
Awkward Potion |
Brewing Nether Wart with Water Bottles | Used to brew other potions, and grants no effect upon consumption. |
Brews |
Purchasing from the Bartender, Grog, Ezekiel, Shifty, or the Melancholic Viking | Used instead of awkward potions to add additional stats or abilities to applicable potions. |
Modifiers
After brewing potions, players can apply additional ingredients to increase the tier/duration. All of the effects can be combined, but one of each can be used.
Ingredient | Duration | Level | Splash |
---|---|---|---|
Redstone | 8 minutes | ||
Enchanted Redstone | 16 minutes | ||
Enchanted Redstone Block | 40 minutes | ||
Enchanted Redstone Lamp | 16 minutes | +3 | |
Glowstone Dust | +1 | ||
Enchanted Glowstone Dust | +2 | ||
Enchanted Glowstone Block | +3 | ||
Gunpowder | Halved | Yes | |
Enchanted Gunpowder | Yes |
Brews and Mixins
The NPCs Bartender, Shifty, and Melancholic Viking sell Brews and Mixins. Brews can be used instead of awkward potions to boost the stat of a certain potion. In addition, these Stat enhancements are only applicable to potions that either already contain the stat or have been specifically designated for its usage.
Main Article: Brews
Potion Types
There are two primary types of potions:
- Buff Potions, which grant positive stat boosts and effects.
- Debuff Potions, which grant negative stat boosts and effects.
Most potions grant a limited time effect of buffs or debuffs when consumed (some are instantaneous, such as splash potions of health). Consuming a potion when one is already active will renew the duration rather than stacking the time on top of each other.
God Potions take priority over all other buffs, and can't be changed by any other potion. All potion effects are lost upon death (unless you die in the void of your Private Island while out of combat), unless you have an active Booster Cookie.
God Potion
The God Potion is a SPECIAL type of consumable purchasable from the Bits Shop for 1,500 Bits. The God Potion grants every type of positive potion effects and brews with mixins at max tier (except Regeneration, which is level 8, rather than the maximum of 9) for 12 hours.
Main Article God Potion
The duration of the God Potion can be increased through several methods:
Method | Information |
---|---|
Alchemy Skill |
The Alchemy Skill increases the duration of the God Potion by 14 minutes and 40 seconds per level, which adds up to an additional 12 hours at Alchemy 50 for 24-hour-long effects. |
Parrot Pet |
The Parrot Pet's 4th ability Parrot Feather Infusion which will increase the God Potion's duration by up to 20%. |
There are several additional things to note about the God Potion:
- The Potion Affinity accessories do not affect the God Potion's duration upon consumption.
- The God Potion's duration only goes down while online, on that specific profile.
- Using another God Potion while one is already active will renew the timer rather than stacking the duration.
Potion Rarity
Potion rarities are determined by their potion level.
Level | Rarity |
---|---|
Level I | COMMON |
Level II | COMMON |
Level III | UNCOMMON |
Level IV | UNCOMMON |
Level V | RARE |
Level VI | RARE |
Level VII | EPIC |
Level VIII | EPIC |

Alchemy Experience
Main Article: Alchemy
Alchemy XP is gained by brewing potions. The base item used to brew a potion determines the amount of Alchemy XP that will be earned when the potion is removed from the Brewing Stand.
Alchemy XP is affected only by the first ingredient after the awkward potion. A tier III potion can be upgraded to a tier V potion by adding an Enchanted Glowstone however, the result will be a tier V potion, but the potion will only grant tier III potion Alchemy experience.
- Tip: Both the Alchemy XP Boost potion and Booster Cookie active increases Alchemy XP intake.
