Essence is a Currency that can be spent in various Essence Shops or used to upgrade certain items, granting them increased Stats.

Obtaining

All types of Essence can be obtained through various methods. Some of the more common methods include: killing Dungeon Mobs, salvaging Dungeon Items, and opening Dungeon Reward Chests. Below is a more detailed list of sources for each type of essence.

Undead Essence	Dungeon Reward Chests. Killing Crypt Undeads in Catacombs Entrance and Catacombs Floor I. Killing Prince Valentin, Nicholas, Pieter, Alexander, Christian, Marius, Bernhard, or Friedrich. Salvaging Dungeon Items that require Undead Essence to be upgraded.
Dragon Essence	Killing Lost Adventurers. Killing Redstone Warriors. Sacrificing certain items to the Draconic Altar. Salvaging Dungeon Items that require Dragon Essence to be upgraded.
Gold Essence	Killing King Midas. Killing Golden mobs from the Blood Room in Catacombs Floor V and above. Salvaging Dungeon Items that require Gold Essence to be upgraded.
Diamond Essence	Killing Angry Archaeologists. Salvaging Dungeon Items that require Diamond Essence to be upgraded.
Ice Essence	Killing Frozen Adventurers. Fishing on the Winter Island. Salvaging Dungeon Items that require Ice Essence to be upgraded.
Crimson Essence	Participating in a Kuudra fight. Salvaging items that require Crimson Essence to be upgraded.

Salvaging

Malik, Igor, and Alwin allows you to salvage items, granting you Essence. The amount of Essence you receive from salvaging an item depends on the stats of the item. For every ✪ on the item, the amount of Essence you receive increases by 2.

Usage

Upgrading Items

You can use Essence to upgrade certain items or convert them into Dungeon Items. Each item level upgrade ✪ grants a +2% stat bonus, and if the item is a Dungeon Item, a +10% bonus while in Dungeons.

Dungeon Items grant stat boosts while you are in Dungeons based on your Dungeoneering Skill level. This is done through the Essence Crafting menu in Malik, Igor, and Alwin.

Trivia

Salvaging an item for Essence for the first time unlocks the Achievement "Sacrifices must be made".
Originally Essence was only obtainable through The Catacombs, and used purely for content relating to Dungeons.
Essence is the only currency that can be traded directly using the Bazaar.
Most items are converted to Dungeon Items when upgraded using Essence.
Items upgraded with Crimson Essence do not convert to Dungeon Items.
