Enchanted Books can hold Enchantments of various levels. These levels are displayed as Ruman Numerals.
Enchanted Books can be combined in an Anvil at no cost. However, the more Enchantments a book has the more expensive applying it to an item will be. Combining books of the same enchantment type and level will result in a single book of a higher enchantment level. For most enchantment types, this is only possible up until level V. Subsequent levels cannot be obtained through combinations of lower levels. Notable exceptions include Feather Falling and Infinite Quiver, both of which can be combined up until their maximum level of X.
The price to apply an Enchanted Book to an item is determined by the total cost of all enchantments present on the book, from an Enchantment Table, in experience points, multiplied by 0.75, and then finally converted into experience levels.
Conflicting and Ultimate enchantment rules still apply when combining Enchanted Books. That is to say, conflicting enchantments cannot be combined, and an item can only have a single ultimate enchant at a time. When combining books with conflicting or different ultimate enchantments, the final product will retain the enchantments of the book in the left slot, while any conflicts from the right slot will be lost.
