Alchemy is one of the 12 Skills players can level up as they earn Alchemy XP. The max Alchemy level is 50 and you start at level 0.
Brewer
Brewer is the skill's ability which is exclusively upgraded by increasing your Alchemy Skill. For every level of Brewer the potions you brew will have a +1% longer duration. For example, at Alchemy level 25, potions you brew will be 25% longer. This means the maximum brewable potion length is 1 hour long (using an Enchanted Redstone Block).
Leveling
Alchemy XP is primarily earned by brewing potions in the Brewing Stand. However you can also gain Alchemy XP by breaking fully grown Nether Wart crops.
Earning Alchemy XP
Alchemy XP is earned by either farming Nether Warts or by brewing potions. Experience earned from brewing is determined by the primary ingredient; any redstone or glowstone-type ingredients do not modify the amount of experience earned. Brewing an Awkward Potion with a Nether Wart also awards 5 XP, but this is not applied as a bonus on top of any potion you brew with it (must be collected before further brewing).
