The Forgotten Skull is a Zone on the far north side of the Crimson Isle, right behind the Blazing Volcano. It is where you go to in order to fight Kuudra.
Purpose
This location is the home of the Kuudra Gatekeeper, who allows you to enter Kuudra's End to fight the Kuudra boss.
The Vulcan NPC can be found right next to the Gatekeeper, who allows you to buy various upgrades using 
Crimson Essence.
You can also mine Netherrack here, although, if you move just south of this location to The Wasteland, there is much more to mine. This is sometimes done in order to obtain the Kuudra Follower Boots from the Kuudra Loremaster.
